A new press release is about to be published that talks about the new dynamic geocoding and routing services now offered through ArcGIS Online. ArcGIS Online is a fairly new platform, and ESRI has been working hard to add a number of new services and features to this platform.
ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Desktop users can now complement their GIS projects with geocoding, place-finding, and routing capabilities. Composed of World Geocoding and World Routing, these new professional ArcGIS Online location services use the most current and detailed Tele Atlas reference data and are hosted and maintained by ESRI.
ESRI is offering a set of standard no-cost service services that provides address, batch, and reverse geocoding for North America (US and Canada) and Europe as well as global place finding capabilities.
Users who need to batch geocode (save geocodes) for more than 1,000 addresses per year or use this service for commercial purposes can purchase annual subscriptions in blocks of 25,000 batch geocodes. The no-cost World Geocoding services can be accessed with ArcGIS 9.2 or higher. To access the subscription services, users must have ArcGIS 9.3.1.
World Routing supports point-to-point and optimized routing for North America and Europe. It is available as a standard, no-cost service with a limit of 5,000 routes per year and as a fee-based service for each additional block of 5,000 routes, which can be used for commercial purposes. World Routing requires ArcGIS 9.3.1.
