The new ArcGIS 9.3 Flex API is now available!
Earlier this month ESRI made available the ArcGIS 9.3 JavaScript API along with the ArcGIS 9.3 Resource Centres.
Develop rich internet applications with ArcGIS services using the Flex™ framework. The API enables creating applications with intuitive, visually rich and responsive user interface. The ArcGIS API for Flex takes full advantage of the powerful mapping, geocoding, and geoprocessing capabilities of ArcGIS services.
ESRI announced the ArcGIS Server 9.3 Flex API at the ESRI Developer Summit 2008 and it’s great to see the first release has been made available.
The ArcGIS API for Flex™ allows the creation of Rich Internet applications on top of ArcGIS Server. It is integrated with Adobe Flex Builder 3 and can be downloaded for free from the ArcGIS Server Resource Center. Flex is a client-side technology that is rendered by Flash Player 9 or Adobe AIR.
To use the Flex API you simply download the ArcGIS API for Flex library and start creating your Flex application using Flex Builder 3 (or your Flex tool of choice).
Like the other API’s which are available for ArcGIS Server 9.3, the ArcGIS Server 9.3 Flex API includes a bundle of samples, concepts and API reference.
Head over and download the ArcGIS Server 9.3 Flex API. The download is in the form of a .zip file.
The .zip file contains all the files to get you started along with a bundle of samples. It’s really easy to get started. In just four steps using Adobe’s Flex Builder you can have an application running.
1. In Flex builder, create a new Flex project (File -> New Flex project).
2. Copy all the contents of the samples folder to src folder of the Flex project created above.
3. In Flex builder, add the API Library to the project through Flex Build Path -> Library Path -> Add SWC (and locate the “agslib-1.0-beta-2008-07-31.swc”)
4. In Flex builder, right-click on any of the sample mxml applications and click “Run Application”
